Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Tri Delta is committed to being brave, bold, and kind to all individuals and creating an inclusive and equitable community within our chapters. Tri Delta’s national office has established a specific action plan for how we will do that at the national level, but our chapter here at the University of Arkansas, Delta Iota, has also begun some of our initiatives to help educate our members and equip them to be advocates and allies in their communities.

Delta Iota has always provided programming and educational resources to our members, but we have recently diversified our library and established specific, tangible initiatives to allow us to hold each other accountable and keep each other focused on the task at hand. The work is never done when it comes to fighting systemic racism and dismantling stereotypes, biases, and injustices.

Here’s what we’ve been up too:

Updated Legacy Policy

Delta Iota has updated our chapter policies in regards to Legacy status. We want to ensure that all Potential New Members are treated equally. Legacies, as defined in our policies, will no longer be favored during Recruitment efforts.

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Access & Belonging Committee

We have established a Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Access & Belonging Coordinator, as well as a committee of members of all pledge classes. This committee will be focused on putting on educational programming and providing educational resources for members to access.

Content Club

We have begun a weekly “Content Club” where sisters meet together to discuss educational materials such as books, podcasts, and movies related to racism and injustices. This space allows us to grow together and learn from each other.

Northwest Arkansas Resources

We have established a database of Black owned businesses in Northwest Arkansas and encouraged our members to support these entrepreneurs. We also have diversified our businesses that we use for events and philanthropic opportunities.

We know that these steps are small, and are only the beginning of change in our chapter. The members of Delta Iota are committed to exposing any ignorance and injustices in our communities and helping our sisters do the same.

Delta Love and Mine,

Katie Gage

Vice President of Community Relations and Chair of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee
